Excellence Without ExceptionMikayla Melendez is a wonderful example of East Eagle Excellence. She is a very quiet 6th Grade student who would much prefer to fly under the radar and not be noticed. However, Mikayla’s quiet strength is exactly what makes her stand out. Mikayla is a great example to her classmates, she helps others whenever she can, and goes above and beyond to be an asset to her classroom.  Mikayla has been the first runner up in our East Eagle Spelling Bee for the past 2 years. Mikayla is a fountain of knowledge, and it shows in her NWEA scores. She has scores in the upper 90th percentile, as compared to students nationally in both math & reading.

"When I look for examples of excellence, Mikayla Melendez shines bright." - Principal Charmekia Edelstein

Mikayla Melendez accepts her Student of the Month certificate.

"When describing Gamaliel (Gami) Aparicio, I think of how I would describe the ideal student that any teacher would love to have in their class. Gami has impressed his teachers throughout grade school." - Principal Deirdre Garnett

Not only is he outstanding academically, but he takes the initiative to participate in extracurricular activities. He is a member of the Enrichment Club, the Basketball team, and the District 6 Band. He was 1st runner up in Elmwood’s spelling bee. He is always willing and ready to help with the delivery of breakfast in the morning.

When it comes to academics, Gami is an excellent student (superior honor roll student). He goes above and beyond my expectations. He is a leader to most of the other students and respects the classroom rules. If he has completed his work, he reads or asks if there is anything else that he needs to do. Anytime Gami has a free moment, he always pulls out a book and gets lost in it.

Gami is well loved and respected by his classmates and is very patient when they ask for his help with something that they don’t quite understand. He’s a homegrown Elmwood Panther since kindergarten, always head and shoulders above his peers, in more ways than one!

McKenzie Loper is a model student and a wonderful role model for her classmates. She is eager to learn, willing to help others, and always tries her best. McKenzie asks questions, makes connections, and will make a wonderful addition to her kindergarten classroom. I am so proud of the young learner and the young lady that McKenzie has become over the last two years at Lakeview. We will miss her dearly when she goes to kindergarten next year, but cannot wait for her to continue on her journey as a lifelong learner!

Esteban Mendoza is an awesome student to have in the classroom, he has excellent behavior in school. He is very respectful to his teachers and his peers. He is very caring and polite to everyone and has become more engaged in the classroom during whole group and small groups and always helps his peers to clean up when our day is done.
